1979-1980:
Rife continues to lead the team, which is reinforced by the signing of Danish Allan Simonsen, but the results are not good, to the point that Hansi Krankl striker is replaced by Brazilian Roberto "Dynamite". A defeat at the Camp Nou and subsequent disposal against Valencia in the first leg of the quarterfinals of the Cup Winners Cup, precipitated the dismissal of coach.
It takes charge of the team Helenio Herrera, twenty years after returning to the club. The goal is to qualify for the UEFA Cup and achieved, finishing fourth in the league. In the Cup the team falls into the second round against Real Sociedad and lost the Super Cup against Nottingham.

In the Copa del Rey Barcelona falls in eighth against Atletico Madrid.
The
disappointment at the top League with victory in the Cup Winners Cup. The final

opponent is the Belgian side Standard Liege, who wins 2-1.
Barcelona is reinforced by a great signing, then the most expensive in the history of the club, the Argentine Diego Armando Maradona. Also arriving Marcos, Julio Alberto Urbano, Pichi Alonso and "Perico" Alonso.
The results still are not good. For the first time in the last Barcelona Joan Gamper Trophy. Begins the League and Maradona falls ill with hepatitis. In the Recopa team lost in the quarterfinals to Austria Vienna.
On March
3, 1983 is dismissed Lattek. Waiting for a new coach takes over former team
player José Luis Romero. I replaced the Argentine César Luis Menotti. The
Barcelona finishes fourth in the league but manages to win the Cup final, held
on 4 June 1983 in Zaragoza against Real Madrid (2-1). Also wins the newly

In the Cup Winners Cup, Manchester United eliminated Barcelona in the quarterfinals. In the first leg played at the Camp Nou, Barcelona wins 2-0, but in England, the English club wins 3-0.
Barcelona won the Supercopa of Spain against Athletic Bilbao and comes brilliantly to the Cup final, in which he faces back to Athletic Bilbao. Beat the Basques 1-0 but the match ends in the middle of a pitched battle, punched and kicked by the players.
Nunez
gives green light to transfer Maradona to Naples and the investment made by the
Argentine two years before recovering.
Terry Venables replaced Menotti on the bench. To replace the loss of Maradona, Venables joined the Scottish Steve Archibald, although the preferred policy Hugo Sanchez, the Atletico Madrid striker would end up signing for Real Madrid, where he proclaimed five times Pichichi Trophy winner.
The League starts up imposing Barcelona at the Bernabeu 3-0 and placed the head of the standings, a position he would no longer to be crowned champions of League. In the League, with Archibald in bad shape and Schuster faced with the policy, the Barcelona finishes second 11 points behind Real Madrid. In the Cup the team reached the final but lost against Real Zaragoza (1-0). Also lost the Super Cup against Atletico Madrid.
The European Cup is the big goal. Barcelona beats Sparta Prague, Porto, Juventus and Goteborg in a historic night of "Pichi" Alonso, who made three goals. The final will be played on May 7 in Seville, before thousands of Barcelona fans. The opponent is the Steaua Bucharest and Romanian penalties are imposed. The party and the extension ended goalless.
The
Barcelona closed the season by winning the League Cup against Real Betis, a
devalued competition would not play more.
Venables gets carte blanche to strengthen the team and goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta record, Roberto, Mark Hughes and Gary Lineker. Schuster is from the team.
The longest League history (after 34 games were played 10 more "play-off") just to win Real Madrid, three points ahead of Barcelona, who was leading for much of the competition. A defeat at home to Sporting Gijon (0-4), marked the fall of the team.
In the
Cup falls in the second round against Atletico Osasuna on penalties and the
UEFA Cup that removes the opponent in the quarterfinals is the Dundee United.

The start of the season is disastrous and Venables September 23 is replaced by Luis Aragones.
The season is filled with controversy several Luis Aragones suffers from depression and left the leadership team to Carles Rexach, 80 notables calling for the resignation of President Nunez, Schuster march at halftime of a game (after it emerged that he had signed for Real Madrid), but the biggest scandal erupts April 28, 1988 with "Hesperia mutiny", where players summon the press in Barcelona hotel and make a public statement in which the resignation of president Josep Lluis Nunez is suggested. A few days after the signing of Johan Cruyff is known as new coach next season.
In the
League the Barcelona finishes sixth (worst ranking since 1942) and the UEFA Cup
falls eliminated in the quarterfinals by Bayern Leverkusen. The Cup is the only
salvation for a dark season you can leave the team for the first time outside
Europe. The Barcelona reach the final in Madrid on 30 March 1988 against Real
Sociedad. Beat Barca 1-0.
Johan Cruyff on the bench template is renewed from top to bottom. Most of the components of "Hesperia Mutiny" march and reach new signings: Bakero, Beguiristain Lopez Rekarte, Serna, Unzue, Eusebio, Salinas, Aloisio, Soler, and Manolo Hierro Valverde. In April the Paraguayan Romerito is incorporated.
Barcelona finishes second after much protest by refereeing errors that allegedly favored the Real Madrid the league. April 1989 elections were held for the presidency of the organization. Josep
Lluis Nunez received the support of the 17,609 to 25,441 members of his rival,
Sixtus Cambra.
